The structure number shall be determined by the line perpendicular to the road centerline, which intersects the main access or entrance to the structure. The number of the centerline segment at the point of perpendicular intersection shall be the number of the structure. Addressing of buildings shall be consistent with identification and signage requirements as described in section 2-75.6.2 of the City Code."Premises Identification: Building shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall have a minimum stroke width of one-half (0.5) inch (12.7mm) and shall be a minimum of four (4) inches (102mm) high for single-family units, four (4) inches (102mm) high at front and rear entrances for multi-family units, and six (6) inches (153mm) for commercial units."1.2 Addressing for multiple residential structures 2-4 unitsEach unit in a freestanding multi-family residence including duplex (2 unit), triplex (3 unit) and fourplex (4 unit), with direct access to a street, should be issued a single address number and additional units contained in one structure share the main address number with additional unique sub-unit identifiers. The Main* address will compose of the entire structure/parcel while the sub units compose of the individual units within the structure. All secondary and auxiliary buildings accessible from alleys along the rear of the property they are located on shall be addressed using the same address as the primary, front street facing building with an additional unique identifier (Unit 1 or 2, Unit A or B) in consecutive order. For identification purposes, this address shall be plainly visible and legible from the alley, and as defined.1.3 Secondary AddressesAll secondary residential/commercial units and or other habitable structure will be issued a unique secondary address number or letter in consecutive order. Additions to the primary house numbers, such as "1/2" or ".5" are not allowed. Each unit within the structure shall be assigned a unit designator such as "suite/unit". Allowed unit designators include apartment (APT) numbers for apartments, and Suite, Bay, Unit (STE, or BAY, or Unit) numbers for commercial buildings. The unit designator shall be numeric or alpha characters in consecutive order.It will be the developer's responsibility to coordinate with the City's GIS Office to assign unit (designators) addresses to all units inside the structure. The list of addresses must be approved by the City's GIS Office prior to release the Certificate of Occupancy.Examples to assign unit numbers are:Ground/First Floor: unit numbers from 100 to 199, (100 Main St. # 101, indicates the unit on the first floor). Alternatively if all units are located on the first floor: 1,2,3,4 etc. or A, B, C, D, etc.Second Floor: unit numbers from 200 to 299, (100 Main St. # 201, indicates the first unit on the second floor)1.4 Addressing for Commercial Structures:Strip malls and other multiple commercial businesses will each be issued a range of unique address numbers from the driveway access. Multiple commercial structures on corner lots shall be assigned an address number from the road parallel with the primary entrance of the building. (see Figure 5)When assigning individual building addresses to the project, the original project/development address shall not be used for any of the occupied buildings. Existing address shall be used for the common area address.6 | PagePage 10Sales, construction and other miscellaneous buildings and trailers used during the construction of projects shall use the project address assigned to the development. All temporary buildings and trailers shall be assigned a designated suite number approved by the City's GIS Office. Temporary suite numbers shall be assigned a designated unit number.One number shall be assigned to each structure where multiple structures share a common building entrance or parking area. Each unit within the structure shall be assigned a unit designator such as "suite/unit". Allowed unit designators include apartment (APT) numbers for apartments, and Suite, Bay, Unit (STE, or BAY, or Unit) numbers for commercial buildings. The unit designator shall be numeric or alpha characters in consecutive order.Unit designators shall be assigned in a logical manner, with increasing unit numbers corresponding to increasing road centerline numbering as much as possible.1.6 Address Number Change/CreationChanging an address can occur for the following situations:An address is found to be out of sequence related to adjoining addresses - a review of surrounding addresses to identify best number to change existing address to is performed.An address is not compliant with current addressing standard (i.e. half address or unit identifier with a letter and not a number) - a review of surrounding addresses to identify best number to change existing address to is performed.An address change is necessary due to site reconfiguration, usually seen with a change in the ingress/egress of the property - a review of surrounding addresses to identify best number to change existing address to is performed.Vanity address changes are discouraged, if current address meets current standards for a valid address the request should be denied.Creation of a new address:A new structure is built and requires an address (requires Address Request Form)A property is split and requires additional addresses (requires Address Request Form)7 | PagePage 11Address Request Form:Unique address creations or modification applicants are subject to complete the Address Request Form and pay the associated fee outlined in the Address Request Form. Sub units included within the main address request are not considered unique addresses and do not require an additional Address Request Form and fee but are required to be listed on the Address Request Form.
