Policy

The City of Sweetwater's only naming convention and policy applies to naming streets within our city limits. The ordinance reads in its entirety below and is self-explanatory.

Sec. 58-28. - Method of naming streets.
(a)It is the policy of the city that it will not name a street for individuals currently alive, except with a five-sevenths vote of the city commission.
(b)It is the policy of the city that the naming of streets after individuals is an honor strictly reserved for those individuals who are or have at one time been residents of the city or who have at one time provided some significant contribution to the welfare of the city or its residents or who are otherwise generally accepted national heroes of the United States.
