CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OXNARD (p. 1)RESOLUTION NO. 12,991 (p. 1)RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OXNARD ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR NAMING CITY PARKS AND OTHER PUBLIC FACILITIES. (p. 1)WHEREAS, the City Council adopted a policy in April, 1977 establishing procedures and guidelines for naming City facilities in honor of local residents; and (p. 1)WHEREAS, the City Council desires to update and revise this policy. (p. 1)NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Oxnard resolves: (p. 1)Any person, entity, or organization, including a City employee, may request that a park, recreation facility or other public facility be identified in a specific manner. (p. 1)Any such request shall be filed with the City Clerk or designee. (p. 1)If the request concerns a park or recreation facility, the name will be reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Commission ("Commission"). The Commission shall then recommend a name for the park or recreation facility to the City Council. (p. 1)If the request concerns a public facility other than a park or recreation facility, the name will be reviewed by the City Council. (p. 1)The City Council or Commission will consider such requests at a public meeting. At the meeting any person, entity or organization may propose another name for the park, recreation facility or other public facility. (p. 1)After thoroughly evaluating all of the names submitted and any recommendation of the Commission, the City Council, at its discretion, will select the name for the park, recreation facility or other public facility. (p. 1)Although exceptional, in appropriate circumstances as determined by the City Council, a park, recreation facility or other public facility may be named after a person, whether living or deceased. (p. 1)If the name of a deceased person is submitted as the name of park, recreation facility or other public facility, a minimum of five years shall have elapsed since the person's death before his or her name may be considered by City Council. (p. 1)Administrative Manual Section F-6 is hereby repealed.
