RESOLUTION NO. 75-3-5-5CRITERIA FOR NAMING PUBLIC PARKSA RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING CERTAIN POLICY, OBJECTIVE AND PRINCIPLES, AS A GUIDE FOR THE NAMING OF PUBLIC PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIESWHEREAS, there is a need to establish a uniform procedure to name public parks and recreation facilities; andWHEREAS, we will be obtaining parks and recreation facilities in the future which will be in need of naming.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the San Juan Capistrano City Council that the following policy, objective and principles relating to the naming of public parks and recreation facilities hereby are adopted as a guide.POLICYThe City of San Juan Capistrano's Park and Recreation Commission shall assume the responsibility for the naming of all public parks and facilities within the corporate limits of the City of San Juan Capistrano. They will review all recommended names and make their recommendations to the City Council for the Council's review and final adoption.OBJECTIVETo establish a uniform procedure regarding the naming of existing and future parks and facilities which will assure good taste and community compatibility, the Commission recommends that in naming the parks of this City, that consideration be given to the names of men and women of local civic achievement and historical importance, and/or names of local significance.PRINCIPLESWhen parks and facilities are dedicated to the City of San Juan Capistrano by individuals or groups they may be named after these individuals or groups. The name of the park or facility may be held in perpetuity.When parks or facilities do not fall into the prior classification, then they shall be named as follows:Neighborhood parks which are adjacent to schools should be named after the school; for example, Forster School - Forster Park.Community parks, regardless of the proximity to schools are to be named after significant leaders and events in the history of San Juan Capistrano.PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of March, 1975, by the following vote, to wit:AYES: Councilmen Heckscher, Nash, Sweeney, Weathers, and Mayor ByrnesNOES: NoneABSENT: NoneROY L.
