AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
3 OF DINUBA AMENDING TITLE 16 OF THE MID,41CIPAL CODE BY AMENDING CHAPTER 16.16 CONCERNING 4 NAMING OF STREETS WITHIN THE CITY OF DINUBA

6 NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Dinuba does ordain as follows: 7 Section_l: Chapter 16.16 of Title 16 of the Municipal Code is hereby amended by repeal
8 therefrom of Section 16.16.160, and the adoption in its place of the following:

Section 16.16.160: Street Naming and Numbers. 10
A. House numbers shall conform with Chapter I I. 16 or any other official plan of house
11 numbers of the City, or if none exists, then shall conform with the requirements of
12
13 the Council.
14 B. The naming of streets as shown on any subdivision map are subject to the following
15
criteria:

1. The proponent of the subdivision map shall provide street names with the 17 tentative tract map for approval by the Dinuba Planning Commission and
18
19 City Council.
20 2. In determining the appropriateness of any street name, the Dinuba Planning
21 Commission and City Council shall use the following criteria:
22
a. Street alignment (e.g., streets that align shall maintain the same
23 name).
24 b. Places/features of the area (e.g., foothill, river, creekside).
25
26 c. Subdivision name.
27 d. Horticultural names (e.g., oak, elm, pine).
28 famous area person, national figures).
e. Persons (e.g., civic leaders,
1 Historical events (e.g., Gettysburg, The Constitution).
2 g. Cities of significance (e.g., Uruapan, Rome, London).

3. Prior to the use of a person's name for a street, there shall be a five year
4 waiting period after a person has left public office and/or a farnous area
5 person has received their notoriety.

7 C. Renaming existing streets
8 1. Prior to the renaming of any existing streets by any interested party, there
9 shall be conducted two (2) public hearings. One public hearing shall be
10
before the Planning Commission and the other public hearing before the City 11
Council.

2. In order to rename an existing street within the City, abutting the street and
13
14 the proposed name change must be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) majority
15 vote of those legal owners as shown on the most recent Tulare County
16 the street which is subject of the
Assessor's roll whose property is abutting
17 name change.

3. After an existing street name has been changed, there shall be a transition
19
20 period where the street will be double-signed for a period of time of no less
21 than two (2) years.
22 Section Il: This ordinance shall take effect and be enforced thirty (30) day from and after
23
the date of its passage. Before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its adoption, this 24
Ordinance shall be published once in The Dinuba Sentinel, a newspaper of general 25
26 circulation, published in the City of Dinuba; except that publication of a summary of this
27 Ordinance within fifteen (15) day after adoption, along with a complete original of the
28 Ordinance being posted in the offce of the City Clerk, may be used in lieu of such publication of this Ordinance.
2 This Ordinance was adopted at the meeting of the Dinuba City Council on the
3 day of JANUARY 1999, by the following vote:
